Redact PDF

Black out regions on a PDF before you share it.

Redacted pages are flattened to an image, so the covered text is removed from the file and cannot be copied out. Those pages stop being selectable or searchable; other pages keep their text.

About Redact PDF

Hide a PAN, address, or salary line before you share a form. Draw boxes on a live page preview, pick black or white, and download. Redacted pages are flattened to an image, so the text underneath is gone from the file instead of being copy-pasteable behind a black rectangle. Pages you did not redact keep their selectable text.

How to use Redact PDF

  1. Upload a PDF and open the page you need.
  2. Drag boxes over the text or numbers to hide.
  3. Choose black or white, apply, and download.

Key features

  • Draw multiple boxes per page
  • Black or white fill
  • Page-by-page preview
  • Undo last box / clear page
  • Private browser processing

Frequently asked questions

Is Redact PDF free?
Yes. Cover regions on TheToolss with no signup.
Is the hidden text really gone?
Yes for the text under your boxes: every page you redact is rasterized, so that page contains only an image and the original characters are no longer in the file. Metadata, attachments and other non-page data are not scrubbed, so this is still not courtroom-grade forensic redaction.
Why can I no longer select text on redacted pages?
Those pages became images so the hidden text could be removed. Pages without redaction boxes are copied through unchanged and stay searchable.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Redaction runs in your browser.
Can I redact every page the same way?
Draw on each page you need. Boxes stay attached to the page you drew them on.
Black or white?
Black is the usual redaction look. White is useful on already-white forms.
